Synton was originally a co-sponsor of the local 2m net. The net meets every Thursday evening at 9pm local time on the 146.76(-) repeater in Champaign, IL. People checking in can make announcements and list items for swap. The Newsline report is played after everyone has checked in. If you're in town, we'd love to have you check in.
Several of our club members are in the process of assembling the necessary equipment to access AO-40. This is the latest and greatest AMSAT satellite, unfortunately the satellite sustained some damage shortly after it was placed on orbit. The damage affected the V-band(2m) transmitter and forced operations into the U/S(70cm/13cm) or L/S(23cm/13cm) modes.

Mark, KC4ENN, has obtained a 2.4GHz(13cm) downconverter orignally intended for use in MMDS(Microwave Multipoint Distribution System), or Wireless Cable. After modification for a 144MHz IF and constuction of an appropriate feed for an old DBS Dish AO-40 has been heard. Unfortunately our transmitter desenses the downconverter making it impossible to hear our own signal.
